Music Entertainment Exec Anastasia Brown Joins American Supergroup Production

ASG audition site receives over 2.1 million hits

Nashville, TN USA : Josephson Entertainment announced the appointment of music, tv and film executive Anastasia Brown as a Producer for American Supergroup, the upcoming music competition show airing this Fall on Pop (cable network seen in 80+ million homes), followed by runs on MTV Live & VH1 Classic. The show is filming in Nashville, Brown’s home since 1989 where she joins Executive producers Barry Josephson, Kevin Wayne Waldrop and Gary Wayne Bridges. CAA is the exclusive worldwide agent for the show and international format rights are available.

Brown, having worked on Emmy-winning, and Grammy, Oscar and Dove-nominated films and TV series, has carved out a unique career path that encompasses music, film and tv while building a bridge between Nashville and Hollywood as a music supervisor, artist manager, music publisher, film and TV producer, author, TV star, A&R and label executive, talent scout and talent booker. Her extensive portfolio of film and TV credits include The Shack, the upcoming Lionsgate film based on the best-selling book (Music Supervisor); I Saw The Light (Associate Producer); Hot Pursuit (Music Supervisor); The Americans (Music Supervisor); Billy (Graham): the Early Years (Executive Producer & Music Supervisor); Footloose (Music Consultant); Nashville Star (Judge); Steven Spielberg Presents: Taken (Music Supervisor); among dozens more. 

Having an ear for talent, Brown spotted Keith Urban in 1994 at the Bluebird Café in Nashville, and immediately signed him to her management company with partner, legendary manager and record mogul Miles Copeland. With Brown’s support, Urban proceeded to secure two record contracts with his new team, leading to international success with Capitol Records. Brown proceeded to sign Waylon Jennings and Leon Russell to Copeland’s record label and has worked with legendary artists/musicians such as Sting, Peter Frampton and Junior Brown for years. As a judge on Nashville Star (USA) in 2006 Brown predicted Chris Young would win the competition, and he went on to record numerous hit songs.

American Supergroup is a music competition program showcasing the creation and evolution of the best newband in the country. Guided by a panel of music experts, 25 finalists will be selected to form 5 groups of 5 members each -- best guitarist, best drummer, best bass player, best keyboards, and best vocalist. Each contestant must have 3 qualities, they must each be: a monster vocalist, a master musician, and an accomplished songwriter. Musical genres can be, but are not limited to, Pop, Pop-Country, Traditional Country, Pop-Rock, R&B, Metal, Latin American, Alternative. Audiences will interact with, and vote for, contestants (bands) via social media platforms and an exclusive ASG app.  

Aspiring Supergroup contestants will be mentored by some of the industry’s best musicians including renowned, award-winning guitarist, James Burton, inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame by Rolling Stones’ Keith Richards. Burton has recorded and performed with music legends Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Judy Collins, Joni Mitchell and many more. The James Burton Foundation is partnering with ASG and its mission is to support music education for those in need through guitar donations and music instruction to schools, hospitals and community service organizations. 

Judges will be comprised of a panel of music experts: either a member of a multi-platinum selling band or supergroup, from any genre; or an entertainment industry insider: manager, record executive, producer, etc. All judges will hold proven credentials that demonstrate their part in building the careers of legendary award-winning bands.  


Barry Josephson, Executive Producer American Supergroup: Josephson Entertainment -- currently Executive Producer of Bones on FOX Network & Turn: Washington Spieson AMC Network. Josephson served as president of worldwide production for Columbia/Sony Pictures. During his tenure, Josephson was responsible for hits such as Men In Black, Air Force One, In The Line Of Fire, The Fifth Element, Anaconda, Bad Boys, The Professional, and The Craft. He is the co-founder of Comic Relief; and he has managed artists Paula Abdul, Patti Labelle, Morris Day, and Whoopi Goldberg, among others.

Gary Wayne Bridges, Executive Producer American Supergroup: Gary has more than 30 years in the entertainment industry including his start as an actor, musician and performer working with the Elvis Presley Estate portraying Elvis himself. Gary then moved into direct response television campaigns for household name entities including BMG and RCA. He then began working in live theater productions producing and creating shows for the Tropicana, Caesar’s Palace, and The Riviera in Las Vegas. Gary has now transitioned to television projects co creating “ASG” and several more forth coming television and entertainment entities.

Kevin Wayne Waldrop, Executive Producer American Supergroup: Kevin Wayne has been a part of the great business of entertainment for over 20 years working as a music, television and movie producer, musician, songwriter and artist manager. His clients have ranged from entertainment conglomerates such as Universal and Sony to high-powered management like Glen Parrish of Irving Azoff’s Azoff, Geary, Paul, Smith to the legal power-houses of Greenberg Traurig and Loeb and Loeb. He has assisted corporations like AARP, the National Guard and Pro Football Hall of Fame in media marketing campaigns and worked in the corporate sponsor world with entities such as Jim Beam and Monster Energy Drinks. In addition to entertainment experience, Kevin has an accounting background and is no stranger to the business side of the industry. He has successfully structured deals for several larger than life projects including a live, performance show on the Las Vegas strip as well as several network television projects.

Anastasia Brown’s list of accolades is almost too long to count. As an entertainment visionary, she is revered for her prowess in discovering musical talent and her work as a music supervisor and producer for major motion pictures, television series and film soundtracks. 

Some of her work includes — but is not limited to — consulting for Footloose, music supervisor for August Rush, executive producer for the movie and soundtrack Billy Graham: The Early Years, music supervisor on For the Love of Music: The Story of Nashville, as well as on a movie based on the book The Shack(to be released in November 2016) and many more projects. She also represents independent songwriters and publishers, has developed three television series, is the author of Make Me a Star, is a liaison between Hollywood, New York and Nashville projects, and she’s a board member on the Nashville Film Festival.

Anastasia Brown, today’s FACE of NashvilleWhere are you originally from? How and when did you land in Nashville?

I was born in Coronado, CA, and raised in Denver, CO. I sang in bands and choirs most of my life. Before graduating from the University of Florida, I realized that I preferred booking, picking our songs and managing our band more than singing on stage in front of an audience. The problem was I didn’t know what opportunities existed. All I knew was that I had to move to a music city. So in 1990, I moved to Nashville.

Give us a peek at your agenda. What’s a typical day or week like for you?

There is no typical day in my life. The only common thread is music and coming up with ideas to promote artists and the music they create. In addition to music supervising, I am developing several music-driven TV series and films. In fact, proof that persistence is the difference between success and failure is a film I began developing in 2003 about the life of Hank Williams — it was finally released in theaters this month, 13 years later.In 2014, you were awarded the Trailblazer Award at the Women in the Workforce Forum & Awards. 

As a role model for women of all ages, what advice do you have for those looking to make a name for themselves in their given industry?

Work hard, never give up, listen more than you talk and always follow through on every promise made. I have been trying to help build a self-sustaining film and TV industry in Nashville since 2002; we are not there yet, but I feel that the concept is gaining momentum and I will never give up.

As an active board member on the Nashville Film Festival how are you helping to grow the film and TV culture and opportunities in Nashville?

Music City has grown into the “it” city because of our creative community; bringing greater opportunities for those content creators in the film and TV arena can benefit the future of Nashville greatly. Professionally, what do you see as your biggest achievement? What has been the greatest challenge you have faced? Being one of a small group of people to build a bridge between Nashville and Hollywood. The motivation behind this? 

Creating new financial and creative opportunities for the local music industry, which has been hit hard by technology and pirating. As a music supervisor, I must pay for music; I can’t steal it or stream it. As a producer, a network or studio must pay for the content I help create. When I first began this journey in 2002 it seemed far out of reach; today I feel it is within our grasp.The biggest challenge I have and do face is my commitment to living in Nashville. As a music supervisor I really should be based in LA or NY, but instead I commute. That’s one reason why I look forward to the day more film and TV content are created and controlled here, so I can live and work in Nashville.“I have been trying to help build a self-sustaining film and TV industry in Nashville since 2002. What music is on your dinner party playlist?

I create party playlists for my guests; if it’s a party with people from out of town I include songs by my favorite Nashville-based artists. If it’s a dinner party with family and chosen friends I would play music by artists like The Mavericks, Ruby Amanfu, Trent Dabbs, The Head and the Heart, Chris Stapleton, Punch Brothers, Lee Ann Womack, The Saint Johns, Beck, Stacey Randol, Kaleo, Mindy Smith … oh, there are too many to list.

What is your next restaurant destination? Sinema

When Anastasia isn’t working to elevate the film and television culture in Nashville, you can find her dining at local restaurants or enjoying great music.

What do you think distinguishes Nashville from other Southern cities?

The creative community and how friendly we are? What is the best piece of advice you have received, and from whom?

Years ago, my friend Laray Mayfield (casting director) said, “The opportunities you say no to are just as important as the ones you accept; think quality not quantity.”

What’s your bucket list travel destination? 

Bali, Singapore and anywhere else I can scuba dive.
